The General Clinton Canoe Regatta weekend attracts more than 1,500 paddlers to 50 races in one or two-person classes on the Susquehanna River. The Regatta culminates Memorial Day with a 70-mile endurance race from Cooperstown to Bainbridge, the world’s longest single-day flat water marathon canoe race, part of the North American Triple Crown of Canoeing.

This event draws big crowds  of spectators to Bainbridge – the town will unroll the welcome mat and make canoeists and other visitors comfortable. Besides canoe races, the weekend also offers carnival rides, music, fireworks, a garden tractor pull and a craft and flea market at General Clinton Park. There’s lots for a visitor to do at the park, but people also visit the Memorial Day activities and businesses downtown. The Regatta is a big plus to Bainbridge and the whole tri-town area.

It takes a slew of volunteers to put on the Regatta. Volunteers are needed for a range of tasks, from the planning committee to volunteers at the finish line. It is an event that requires many area residents to step up and pitch in! Any local residents who would like to be a part of this major event should contact the Chamber of Commerce: bainbridge.chamber@yahoo.com or 607-967-8700.
