[separator top=”50″] [title size=”2″]The longest single day flat water canoe race in the world[/title] The General Clinton Canoe Regatta weekend attracts more than 1,500 paddlers to 50 races in one or two-person classes on the Susquehanna River. The Regatta culminates Memorial Day with a 70-mile endurance race from Cooperstown to Bainbridge, the world’s longest single-day flat-water marathon canoe race. Past entrants included world-class athletes like US Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Barton, 28-time winner Canadian Serge Corbin, and racers from all over the United States, Canada, and from many countries, competing for over $25,000 in cash and prizes. For more information, visit www.canoeregatta.org.

An estimated 1,500 amateur, professional, and Olympic hopeful canoeists participate in events over the course of the weekend. Other activities include carnival rides, fireworks, live music, arts and crafts, tasty foods, a flea market and much more.

This event is a source of pride for Bainbridge, and locals work for months to present the very best of Bainbridge for the occasion. The town rolls out the welcome mat and hosts canoeing enthusiasts as well as visitors looking for an exciting, enjoyable event at a scenic park along the river. Many community groups participate in the weekend through vendor booths and volunteer services, and the fun continues over the four days of canoe races. On Monday, Memorial Day activities downtown include a parade and remembrance services for those who have served in the military. The Canoe Regatta is a great chance to enjoy canoe races and the hospitality of a charming small town.
